Hi my name is Samantha and I am an accessory junkie!
Okay, now that that’s out of the way, let’s get to talking about my favorite type of accessories – statement jewelry. Unless you’re a mannequin in a store window, no one is dressed up ALL the time. There are times when you just want to chill in jeans and a tee, or throw on a maxi dress and some sandals. But when you’re a self-proclaimed fashionista (insert sarcastic emoji here) you have to look fly even on your down days. So how do you incorporate your sexy even on chill days? Yup that’s right, you accessorize!
Accessories add an extra layer of style to even the most mundane outfits. A necklace here, a pair of earrings there and you can go from okay to wow in no time. But not just any kind of accessory gets noticed, sometimes you want to make an all out statement.
I think these may be in the order of my infatuation, but either way, here is why I’m in love with statement jewelry:
Large, Statement Earrings
I over love big earrings. And now that I think about it, I think it’s because I grew up in a Pentecostal church and wasn’t allowed to really wear jewelry. So when I got into it, I really got into it.
Hoops are my main go to, because they can spruce up a chill day outfit but still work for more dressed up looks. But then there are times I want to make it more swanky and chandelier earrings or just plain out-of-the-box different are my choice. And unless you’re on the set of a video or photo shoot, statement earrings do not require a statement necklace as accompaniment. You can pair them with a single strand, simple necklace if you choose.
I love a gorgeous statement necklace. I have seen many necklaces that make you want to stop and take a closer look. Those ones that make guys, girls and grandmas compliment your piece. Again, you can wear a pair of skinny jeans, a tank top and throw on a statement necklace and you’re perfect for a night out (I love to add a swanky pair of heels to the mix, but it’s totally optional). Or add a statement piece to a simple dress to take your look up several notches.
Bangles and Bracelets
Arm candy – that’s what I call it. Bangles or bracelets can be added in addition to a statement necklace or earrings or even ring. Feel free to add your own twist to your arm candy – from sparkling, jewel-crusted cuffs to beads and spikes when you’re feeling kinda funky. I do it all, and I’m not opposed to having bangles halfway up my arm to add that extra “spice” to my outfits.
I’ve always had a love affair with nice rings. At one point they had to be real gold, silver and what not, but then I got into the world of fashion accessories and the rest is history. Of course I still admire and appreciate the real deal, but sometimes the situation doesn’t call for all of that. In that case, fashion, statement rings are where it’s at. Pair with statement earrings or even a cute set of bracelets/bangles to amp up your style.
So there you go (you can thank me later lol) – just a small sample of my favorite types of statement jewelry. Be unafraid, go ahead and make a bold statement. Fashion accessories are fun and should be seen as such – feel free to add your own personal flair to spruce up your outfits. What’s the worst that can happen? I mean you’ll get more attention because people will have to comment on how beautiful your statement pieces are. But, I mean, what’s so wrong with that?
