Happy International Women’s Day

Happy International Women’s Day ladies (to the men, you can pass this message along to the fantastic women in your life). I just wanted to stop by to greet all my female readers. Today is a day that the entire world stops (or they should stop) to recognize the amazing contributions of women both past and present. Women sometimes get the very short end of the stick – like we naturally got the shortest straw. We are the backbones, the amazing support systems, the caregivers and nurturers, but please, please don’t even begin to believe that this is all we are capable of.

Women have accomplished some amazing feats throughout the decades, and if you haven’t noticed by now, you are clearly living in an alternate universe of intense delusion. Movies like Hidden Figures, released just a few months ago (2016) that told the story of the three phenomenal women of NASA that were the brains behind one of the greatest operations in history, Amelia Earhart – the first female pilot to fly solo over the Atlantic, Rosa Parks, who stood up for her rights and became a part of the change for equality. Queen Esther in the Bible that was the sole reason a nation of people were saved from death.

Then you have women like the most recent past FLOTUS (First Lady of the US) Mrs. Michelle Obama – I don’t care what you think about her personally, there is no denying the strides this woman made to not only support her husband but inspire and encourage an entire generation of women and children. Let’s not forget Oprah (enough said), I can go on and on – From Joan of Arc, Mother Theresa, Nina Simone, Sojourner Truth and Florence Nightingale and all the other pioneers.

History shows the rise of women from being creatures of obscurity, dwelling in shadows to rising up and finding their unified voice. Now if that isn’t something to celebrate, then I don’t know what is. So not just today, but every day, celebrate your womanhood.

Don’t ever apologize for being a woman, you are strong, you are fierce, you are resilient and you have the highest pain tolerance of all creation (yea, I had to mention that lol). You are empathetic, sensual and sexy, but you are more than your body. You are more than your curves, your complexion, your hair and pretty face. You are a mind, a soul that is capable of amazing things.

Don’t let society tell you that you you’re only capable of sexy Instagram selfies and striving to be the most recognized face/body on social media. Don’t let society dumb down who you are and what you’re capable of. Too many of your predecessors fought to make your role and worth as a woman not only recognized but respected. Don’t let them live and die in vain. It’s okay to be sexy, but be more than a body. Show the world that you have picked up a book at least once in your life. Show them that you can run a legitimate business, show them that you are resourceful, resilient and empowered.

So ladies, take today to celebrate you – your womanhood. Love yourself and if those around you don’t know, show them how you are to be loved. Respect yourself, respect your body and if those you’re around don’t respect you, either show them that you deserve respect and/or find a new crew.

People treat you how you treat yourself. They respect you to the level that you respect yourself. Shout out to all the amazing women out there, all the mothers, daughters, nieces, aunts and bffs. Encourage your sisters and empower your daughters. You are woman – show the world what you’re made of. You can do it, I believe in you and the world is waiting to applaud your greatness.
